Happy Lunar New Year! Notice that I am not writing Happy Chinese New Year, as there are some non-Chinese people who choose to celebrate this occasion.

I cannot believe that it's been a year (in more than one way) since I've last blogged...hmm...maybe there is a better way to do this...to decrease the lag between a JW event and its manifestation in this blog...

This year is the year of the dog. I wonder when the next lunar new year will be, because maybe my dog will be born in the year of the dog as well! But the chances are slim, so it's most likely going to be a dog born in the year of the pig.

Speaking of dogs, I found another name that may be suitable for my future dog if it's a male. Here is the background information. My brother cut out a newspaper article for me entitled, "Police dog killed chasing suspect." Basically, a Vancouver police dog was killed in the line of duty, three months before he was scheduled to retire. The dog's name was Nitro and he was an eight-year-old German Shepherd. He was also described as a "very tenacious dog," by the Sergeant. So, in keeping with my parameters of choosing a two-syllable dog name ending with either "a" or "o", Nitro would fit! Also, it's the name of one of the American Gladiators and the first part of the seventh element. Most importantly, it would be honouring a hardworking police dog.

Finally, who wants to start a book club? I just finished reading the book, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime," and it was fantastic! It definitely opens your mind as to how an autistic person might see the world. To be honest, what first attracted me to the book was the picture on the cover. It was a solid red cover with a picture of an upside down, white Standard Poodle. Of course, my first reaction was, "ooh dog!" Then I opened the book and found out it was a mystery-like novel and the protagonist was an autistic boy. Anyway, I highly recommend it to everyone, even if you don't particularly like dogs!
